It is well known that repeated insulin injections into the same spot can cause a lump or small indendentation in the skin. This is due to a reaction to the injection causing degeneration of the fat layer of the skin. It is known as lipodystrophy. Although relatively harmless its importance lies in the slowing down or alteration of insulin absorption when injected into this sight and the subsequent poor control of the diabetes.
